CSS: Cascading Style Sheets

CSS is the web standard approach to presentation of content on the Web. Traditionally Designers have used the table markup to create layouts mainly due to the limitations of browsers at the time, which were also the only devices available to the public for viewing web based content. This approach works well but has a few fundamental flaws that restrict the use of the Internet to very specific devices. It is also a very labour intensive and subsequently expensive way of developing for the Web.

CSS files are essentially a set of guidelines for presenting content. The simplest approach sees the layout held in one or two css files which are referenced by HTML pages. This is the approach demonstrated in the tutorials.
